History of the Monastery

By the grace of God and His all-holy Mother, a new holy monastery has opened in the spiritually thirsty new world for the common benefit of Orthodox Christians, with the blessing of His Grace Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, and of our spiritual father, the Very Reverend Elder Ephraim. The zeal and desire of the Greek inhabitants of Florida is also praiseworthy, since it is due to their fervent prayers and efforts that the Panagia deigned to bless them with the establishment of a monastery dedicated to her.

The Holy Monastery of the Annunciation was established in September of 1998. The nuns in it trace their spiritual heritage to the ancient monastery of the Honorable St. John the Forerunner in Serres. This historic monastery was established in the thirteenth century and is one of the most frequently visited pilgrimages in northern Greece.
